Obituary for Ronald Holmer Cross

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Ronald Cross, in his 79th year after a long and difficult journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Cherished husband of Margaret (Belbin) of 55 years, loving father to Jim (Meg) and Wendy, beloved grandfather to Manny, Jillian, & Rin Cross and Joshua & Brooke Cybulski. Ron will be sorely missed by his sister Carol, sister-in-law Mary, and so many family members and dear friends who have experienced his gentle kindness through the years. Ron grew up in Toronto and graduated from Ryerson University as a mechanical engineering technologist, later working for many years at Babcock and Wilcox in Cambridge where he was respected as a man of integrity who was always pleasant to everybody. After officially retiring from B&W, he started a business called Cross Project Services with his son, Jim. The two of them worked hard together and enjoyed breaking new ground together across Canada providing project management services at pulp and paper mills. Music was a big part of his life. He was always whistling a happy tune, he sang in many choirs, played trumpet in marching bands, and he played bells. Ron met Marg at Hope United church in 1964. They married in 1966 and had many happy years together, raising two wonderful children and delighting in five grandchildren. He loved animals, and dogs in particular. Anyone who knew Ron, knew him for his kindness, his gentleness, and his easy-going nature. He was always willing to help anyone at a moment’s notice, and could fix anything. He was always there, smiling and engaged at every gathering and enjoying every minute. He was willing to help and support his kids (and Meg too), in everything from moving to university to buying and renovating first homes, and any number of projects together. He was involved in church ministries, and was part of men’s ministry, and could be counted on to help set up for events and lend a hand at plant sales and church bazaars. We would like to thank the Spruce View team at Idlewyld Manor for their wonderful loving care over the past four years. In lieu of flowers, donations to Idlewyld Manor or the Alzheimer’s Society of Haldimand would be appreciated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 13th at Miller Funeral Chapel, adhering to COVID restrictions. Visitation at 12:30 and service at 1:30. The service will be recorded and made available online to those unable to attend.
