Obituary for Margaret "Anne" McAlpine

McALPINE, Anne (nee Thomson)
With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Anne surrounded by her family, on July 1, 2023, at the age of 76. Anne will be lovingly remembered by her children, Allison Sladin (Sam) and Jason McAlpine (Jane). She was a cherished Grammie to Kally (Jared), Camryn (Colton), Aaron and Dominic. Anne was predeceased by her mother (Doris), brother (Russell), sister (Sharon), stepmother (Madeline), brother-in-law (Jim), father (Cameron), and brother (Dennis). She is survived by sisters Gail Simmons (Dave) and Marie Burke (George), sister-in-law Bette Eke (Dave) and Leo Maloney. Anne was a beloved aunt, great aunt and great, great aunt to many nieces and nephews. Anne will be sadly missed by her constant four legged companions, Muggins and Marley, who she spoiled rotten. Anne was a dedicated secretary at both Northview and Centennial Public Schools over her 31 year career. Even years after retiring she was still in contact with many of her former students and families. After retirement Anne stayed busy with volunteering at CYPRES, attending events at the Seniors Centre and even taking in several cooking classes. Anne wrote a cooking column for the Grand River Sachem and Haldimand Press for 43 1/2 years. She was known to share samples of her latest recipe (or even recipe flops) with many friends and local businesses in Caledonia and Hagersville. Anne’s family invites everyone to join them for a gathering. Please drop into the Caledonia Lions Hall (100 Haddington St. Caledonia) on Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 2p.m - 7p.m. to share your memories and celebrate her life. If desired, donations may be made to Canon’s Cause in Caledonia in memory of Anne. Arrangements entrusted to MILLER FUNERAL CHAPEL, Caledonia.
