Obituary for Hugh Barrie Patterson

Hugh B. Patterson, long time resident of Caledonia and distinguished member of the century club, passed away peacefully at his residence, RVilla in Caledonia, surrounded by family. Hugh was in his 102nd year, an honoured veteran of WW2, where he served in Europe as a Signalman, Dispatch Rider, delivering messages to the front and all field units. Hugh was born at home in Caledonia in December 1921 to parents Myrtle and Norman Patterson, farmers of Scottish heritage. After the war, he met his wife, Barbara, and together they raised a family of nine children: Dave (predeceased), Susie (Bob Crawford), Bob (predeceased) and his wife Joanne, James (predeceased) and his wife Ina Main-Patterson, Theresa, (the late Chris Campbell), John, Scott, William and Barbara (Keith Tuck). Hugh is predeceased by his beloved wife Barbara, his sister Jean and his brother Murray. He worked at his trade as an electrician and was actively involved in community clubs: the Haldimand Choralairs, the Presbyterian Choir, The Kinsmen Club, K40 and The Special Projects Club. He was happy to help out in the community. In his retirement years, he lived on the farm on McClung Road, then moved to RVilla and made it his home. Staff have become his second family and the residents his close friends. The family wish to thank all of the staff at RVilla Caledonia for their kindness and attentiveness. Thank you to the team of CBI nursing staff who provided special care for Hugh those last few days. Hugh has many grandchildren and great grandchildren and he is extremely proud of them all. Visitation will be held at MILLER FUNERAL CHAPEL, 28 Caithness Street East, Caledonia from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, followed by the funeral service at 1 pm. Interment of cremated remains will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Caledonia at a later date. Donations to Community Living Haldimand or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
