Obituary for Gordon David Wellings
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gordon David Wellings on Sunday, August 22, 2021.
In his 93rd year, Gord was predeceased by his loving wife Hazel and daughter Wendy. He will be deeply missed by his children, Greg (Jody) and Stacy (Leana). Gramp-Gordie was a loving grandfather to James (Sarah), Amy, Phillip (Stephanie), Beth (Aaron), Hannah (Lucas), Ben (Kelsey), Jesse and Sadie. Proud great-grandfather of Angel, Jewel, Audrey, Jesse, Jacob, Owen, Liam and Norah.
Gord was born on April 1, 1929 in Kelfield, Saskatchewan. One of the youngest of a Saskatchewan wheat farming family of 15 children. At the young age of 16 Gord traveled to Sudbury where he began his career in automotive services and married Hazel in 1951.
In 1971, with his wife at his side, Gord founded Wellings Auto and Variety Store in Willowgrove, Ontario. A family business continuing to be operated with Stacy at the helm. This year marks the business’ 50th anniversary.
The family want to thank all the staff at Anson Place in Hagersville where Gord spent the last several years living, remaining in his community until his final days.
Gord was a quiet private person and in keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a small family interment ceremony will follow.
