Obituary for Barbara Anne Martindale (Hewitt)

MARTINDALE, Barbara
Passed away on March 19th 2022 at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice in her 81st year after a brief illness. Barbara was born July 30, 1941 and raised on a farm in Seneca Township, daughter of predeceased Murray and Pat Hewitt. She attended Caledonia High School and has lived in Caledonia, since her marriage in 1960 to her predeceased husband Chester Martindale. She was a loyal and dedicated member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church for 62 years. Barbara was devoted to the prosperity of Caledonia through her work as the Executive Director of the Caledonia Regional Chamber of Commerce and Director of the Business Improvement Area (BIA) for which she was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. She was an avid writer and historian, a writer for the Grand River Sachem, her weekly column called “For What It’s Worth” detailing the history of Haldimand and surrounding areas and has authored two books “Bridging the Past” (1987) and “Caledonia Along the Grand River” (1995). Barbara is survived by her three children: Tony Martindale (Sandi Martindale), Perry Martindale (Darlene Martindale) and Patti McMaster (Robert McMaster).  Her six grandchildren, Stevie Martindale (Keith Heppler), Jordan Martindale, Holly Martindale, Gabby Martindale, Bobby McMaster, and Brittany McMaster (fiancé: Joe Morrison). And her brother Ron Hewitt (Yolande Hewitt). The Service will take place in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Caledonia, on Thursday March 24, 2022, at 2 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at the Riverside Exhibition Centre, (The Old Arena) 4 p.m - 6 p.m. The public is welcome to join the funeral service, the celebration of life or both. The family will be attending a private burial immediately following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice or the Caledonia Community Foundation. The family of Barbara Martindale wishes to thank Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice for their exceptional service and comforting hospitality. Arrangements entrusted to Miller Funeral Chapel, Caledonia.
